Security - how to be safe

How to stay safe online. Despite all of the 'doom and gloom' the internet is a fantastic resource when used wisely.

Password Selection and Security

Your password is like the keys to your house.

It is as precious as your most prized possession.

A wallet full of money.

Bank account PIN.

Your reputation.

Would you trust these things to your friends? All of them? Without your supervision? You shouldn't!

Neither should you share your password. If they have your password, they can steal your identity and pretend to be you.

Your password should be strong and secure. Don't use a name - these passwords are easy to guess.

A good password:
  • Is at least 8 (eight) characters long... AND
  • Uses upper and lower case letters ... AND
  • Uses numbers... AND
  • Uses special characters (like $&%?!)... AND
  • Is changed at least every 6 months.
If you're having trouble choosing one for yourself, you can use a password generator like this one:
